Guild Workshop

A Guild meeting was held in Woods Cross on May 18th and we all got started on a fun project that used a lot of the techniques we learned during the Ali Strebel Seminar. We are making small hooked bags to be used for carrying rug hooking supplies (or whatever) and it was so fun to see all the different versions and color combinations that people were using.  The Board did a fantastic job of preparing for the day - organized down the the Nth degree! Pictures are below - in no particular order.

These first two pictures show Londi's and Pat's projects that they had been working on in advance so we could visualize what the finished items would be like. Quillie flowers played an integral part in the design.

Here are some 'in progress' photos:

And here are a few extra curricular needle felted projects that were there:

Dyed wool fabric that will look like beading when it is hooked - only three colors of dye were used.

Dyed roving that was available to be used in our projects - yummy colors!

Pictures of the attendees:

A good time was had by all and we look forward to our next event!

Dye Workshop

Our Guild recently had a dye workshop where we learned to dye wool using a variety of techniques. Here are a few pictures from that day.

Angela demonstrated how to make your own dye recipe by using the color wheel.

Lisa showed how to do spot dyes
And Nan showed how to dye wool roving.

It was a very informative day and we appreciate the knowledge that was shared!

Creativity Journals

On Saturday January 26th, the Guild members met at the library to make creativity journals. These will be used for storing photos of our own rugs, ideas for future rugs, and other types of inspiration. All the supplies were on hand and it was amazing how much fun everyone had considering there wasn't a piece of wool to be seen! Thanks so much to the board members for organizing this great day, and especially to Londi & Pat for being so generous to share their personal supplies of ink, paper, stamps & stencils. A great time was had by all. Some people left before pictures were taken, but you can get an idea of what we did.

Show & Tell

Back in July, the Guild had a Play Day where we learned how to do needle punch projects. Some gals already knew how to do this and some were attempting it for the first time. In conjunction with this, orders were taken for some wonderful wooden boxes that were designed especially for storing the needles and threads needed for these projects. There was a a recessed area in the lid that was perfect for displaying a punch needled piece. Tonia ordered one of these boxes and recently completed a design she found in a book by Maggie Bonanomi. She used a vinegar painting technique that gave the box a beautiful grain finish - then she mounted the needlework into the lid for the perfect finish. Thanks for sharing with us Tonia!

Show & Tell

Nan recently completed this beautiful rug that has been under construction for years and years. It was started by her mother-in-law way back in 1985. Now Nan has finished it and plans to give it to her sister-in-law - what a great gift, huh? Each of the six panels is hooked in a #3 cut, and the blue sections connecting them are hooked with a #8. The overall size of the piece is 18 x 35.  Thanks for sharing the picture with us Nan. If anyone else has a rug they'd like to share, we love to post it here on the Guild's blog!

Hookoween

Hookoween was a fun event held by the Guild on Saturday, October 13th. Everyone was encouraged to wear hats and alot of people did, so that made for a festive atmosphere.

A vote was taken and a prize give for the best hat.

The event was held at a historic train station and we were told about some of the resident ghosts that have been encounted there through the years - the room we were in was decorated with vintage inspired paper goods hanging from the lights and displayed on tables.

The potluck lunch was delicious and everyone came away with full tummies - - -

- - - eyeballs and skeletons in the punch bowl!

Each person attending received one of these wonderful hand scuplted candy boxes filled with Halloween treats - they were made by Londi and Pat and were just delightful!

There were make & take projects - - - -

And lots of people having fun visiting and working with wool.

The rugs on display were delightful to see.

The Hookoween was a fun, fun event and the attendees would like to thank the Board for all their efforts to make it memorable for us!
